KARACHI - The hunger strike, outside Karachi Press Club (KPC), by the family of missing person Abdul Wahid Qamber entered into fourth day on Saturday.

The family appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry to make public the missing of Wahid Qamber, who had been abducted by the security agencies.

Zadi Shari Baloch, daughter of Wahid Qamber, told the media representatives that her father was freed by the court, as no allegation had been proved against him. Later, he was booked in false cases and was awarded life imprisonment of 25 years.

Later, they moved to Balochistan High Court (BHC) and made appeal, in which the court granted their appeal and forwarded it to ATC-1 Quetta. The court directed to reopen the case from the beginning and decide the case within 3 months. “Instead of implementing the BHC’s direction, the lower court ordered police remand for his father, who was being tortured brutally in the police custody,” she added.

She showed concern that her father might be killed like the recent Baloch leaders including Ghulam Mohammad, Lala Munir and Sher Mohammad Baloch. She also appealed to the United Nations, European Union and other human rights organisations to take notice in this connection.

She alleged that her father was abducted from his village on March 14, 2007 by secret agencies and FC. After being brutally tortured, he was released after 9 months on April 21, 2008. He was then given into the custody of Panchpai police which was pressurised by MI to lodge fake cases of keeping drugs and illegal arms against Abdul Wahid Qambar, but they refused.

Despite being pressurised by the then Chief Minister Balochistan, the then IG police did not lodge an FIR against him, and released his mate Nako Faiz after proper investigation.
